General Blood Tests
Blood tests are very common. They help Doctors check for certain health conditions. They can check to see if you have an infection, check to see how well your organs are working, screen for certain genetic conditions, help diagnose diseases such as Diabetes, cancer and heart disease, diagnose bleeding or clotting disorders, help diagnose anemia and also check to ensure your medications are working and your on the right dose.
There are blood tests that require "fasting" or other certain requirements, please see our FAQ page for further information. But most importantly, if you're not sure speak with your GP.
Some people may be scared of having a blood test, as in fear of what the results may be. The earlier health issues are detected the better your chances of living a longer, happier life. If you know someone who hasn't seen the GP in quite a while, encourage them to get an "MOT" of their health.

We have vast experience in obtaining blood samples from the elderly and frail. With many years experience with patients on many Wards within a hospital setting as well as Out Patient Department dealing with various health problems including Renal, Diabetic and Cancer patients.
As people age it is crucial to take extra care during a blood test, this is due to their fragile veins, thinner skin, probable dehydration along with multiple health conditions.
These factors combined make blood collections in elderly patients more complex and require specific techniques to ensure success while minimizing pain and discomfort.

When it comes to drawing blood from patients with Dementia, you need to exercise caution and skill to ensure the procedure is done safely and effectively.
Obtaining a blood test from Dementia patients can present unique challenges due to their cognitive impairment which affects their reasoning, changes in eating habits, many become chronically dehydrated, and often the possibilities of agitation and violence. It is therefore essential to understand these physiological changes that often occur.

Trypanophobia
Fear of Needles
Needle phobia is very common and affects at least 1 in 10 people. It is often, but not always, the result of a bad experience in the past.
There is no need to feel embarrassed if you have a needle phobia, you are not the first and certainly won't be the last.
Severe anxiety and panic attacks at even the thought of having a blood test is seen on a DAILY basis. Having your blood test at home can help make the process less traumatic.

Special/Additional Needs
Blood tests play an important part in assessing, monitoring and treating the health of people. Therefore, it is important to find a way to make the procedure possible, even for children and adults with special/additional needs.
Me2You Phlebotomy can attend either your home or a care environment. We are always guided by parents and carers to ensure the procedure is as stress free as possible for everyone involved.
In these situations, having a blood test at home has some major benefits:
- Reduced noise levels and bright lights, like you would find in a clinical environment,
- More flexibility, we can attend your home at a time the patient is usually calmer; maybe after an evening bath,
- Take bloods in a room familiar to the patient, the lounge/bedroom, where they could watch their favourite programme during the procedure,
- Will be surrounded by familiar faces, maybe even a pet or two.

Children's Blood Tests
From 11 years old
We provide blood tests for children from 11+ in the comfort of your own home. A blood test form will be required from either a GP or a Consultant.
A child's blood test can help identify a number of health issues, including infections, anemia and inflammation.
A doctor may order a blood test if a child is sick or as part of a routine check up.
Blood tests for children can be very challenging, depending on their age, illness, compliance, past experiences and at times the parents' own anxieties with blood tests.
If we feel we are unable to take a blood sample, we will be honest with you and discuss the options.
